    Sophie Vertigo

    EMMY NOMINATED SPECIAL EFFECTS COORDINATOR

    Sophie has been a Special Effects Coordinator for 20 years successfully overseeing the design, creation, and operation of on-set mechanical, atmospheric, electrical, and explosive effects. She loves to create SPFX that brings the Director’s visions to fruition. She's worked on a number of exceptional Canadian projects like Locke and Key, Star Trek and Umbrella Academy.

    Marcus Feher

    DIRECTOR & VFX ARTIST

    Marcus Feher is a professional in the film and film-related industry specializing in VFX and directing, with a career spanning over 16 years. Born in Sweden and now based in Canada, Marcus has contributed to a variety of high-profile projects, including Marvel's "What If?", "Nimona," "Sausage Party," and "Umbrella Academy." His portfolio includes collaborations with major studios and platforms such as Disney, Netflix, Amazon, and HBO.

    In addition to his work on these acclaimed shows, Marcus founded his own company, Aero Orange, where he is currently developing his own TV show, comic book, and video game. His expertise also extends to medical animation and corporate animation/motion graphics, showcasing his versatility and commitment to his craft.

    Lauren Saarimaki

    Lauren Saarimaki is a producer, actress and mental health advocate. Her interest in the film and television industry started in her childhood when she began pursuing an acting career. She is an alumna of TMU's Creative Industries program. Her focus is producing, however she has had the opportunity to work with a multitude of creative organizations. She also has contributed to film sets in roles such as production manager, location manager and production coordinator.

    She works as the Director of Operations at Fae Pictures. While working at the company she has had the opportunity to co-produce Streams Flow From A River (dir. Christopher Yip) and co-produced Queen Tut (dir. Reem Morsi). She hopes to continue to build a career in film and mental health advocacy.

2023

Dufferin Film Festival is hosting two free screenwriting workshops for the 2023 season, led by local Writer and Director Tristan Barrocks. Tristan is a filmmaker who specializes in telling grounded, authentic, human-centred stories that connect with the people who watch them. Participants will be guided through an introduction to screenwriting. The workshop will  inspire local writers to create their own compelling stories focused on intentionality, and a commitment to the smallest details. Learn screenplay formatting as well as the rules and guidelines to create an impactful short script that resonates with your audience.

Friday, November 3rd at Streams Community Hub in Shelburne

Wednesday, November 15th at the Orangeville Public Library on Mill Street

THE DIGITAL STORYTELLER

Tristan Barrocks stands as a prominent figure on the international stage, hailing from Toronto as an acclaimed Afro-Canadian film and commercial director. Alongside his accolades, he co-founded Mid-Career Productions, a film production company renowned for its commitment to weaving human-centered narratives that enrich the tapestry of the Black experience. His remarkable portfolio includes groundbreaking works such as "Dear Black Dad" (2021), the captivating "Wallflower" web series (2023), the enlightening "Connecting the Dots" docuseries (2019), and the profound "Mother To Mother" special (2022), among others.

Melding his acting roots with his profound understanding of storytelling, Tristan infuses a distinctive essence into his directorial approach. His journey as a seasoned storyteller enables him to connect with on-screen talent effortlessly, while his adeptness in conveying his creative vision to the production team adds a touch of magic to his craft.

Beyond his directorial achievements, Tristan extends his passion for storytelling into the academic realm, shaping the future generation of creators through hands-on production experiences. A distinguished alumnus of the esteemed Sundance Collab Institute, Tristan has diligently carved out a niche for himself in the film and television industry. His commitment transcends personal success as he forges meaningful bonds with those under his mentorship.

Tristan's ambition lies in unearthing narratives from the Black-Canadian perspective, instilled with authenticity and profound insight. Through his work, he aspires to foster inclusive communities where BIPOC creatives can flourish, nurtured by challenge and growth, ultimately contributing to a richer artistic landscape.
